Himachal’s Transport Department is piloting UAV-based package delivery in Kangra and Kullu districts. Custom drones carry up to 10 kg and navigate hilly terrain with GPS and automated landing systems. In the first phase, the department delivered emergency medicines to remote hamlets and schoolbooks to children during weather shutdowns. Trials show reduced delivery times and improved reliability in monsoon-prone zones. The program is expected to scale under India’s new drone corridor policy by 2027.
